AfriChild has suspended data collection for phase two trial of the Good School Toolkit. This followed a Presidential directive ordering the closure of schools across the country in an attempt to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

President Museveni said all primary and secondary schools, university and other institutions of learning would be closed starting Friday, March 20, 2020 for one month.

“It is wise that we temporary remove these concentration points to prevent the spread of coronavirus. All these institutions, without exception should close so that we deny this virus high concentration. We don’t want the virus to find dry grass ready for ignition,” Mr Museveni said.

Following the directive, AfriChild suspended data collection in 8 secondary schools where the survey was being undertaken. The survey will commence once schools reopen.

The aim of the survey was to explore the violence prevention needs of students, their life experiences and the mental health status of students.

Uganda’s Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, on Sunday morning confirmed the first case of COVID-19.

She said the confirmed case is a 36-year-old male resident of Kibuli, Kakungulu zone in Kampala, who had travelled to Dubai on March 17, 2020 for a business trip. He reportedly returned to Uganda on March 21, 2020 at around 2 am aboard Ethiopian airlines.
